But the real question is whether Lucas and Treeshark have to duke it out over who gets to keep the avatar.

Gadzooks I've been gazumped! Luckily I have a back up. Due to the properties of superglue none of my beauty patches fell off from the shock... :boggle: :boggle:

I won, I won ! And I didn't even have to search for the flintlock and the gunpowder.

Sigh I am reduced to a shadow of my former self.

I did consider this as an avatar but I didn't think I could live up to it!

Have you any stray FluteBeards® lying about?

I've played Baroque flute for a couple of years now. :)

I love my Cameron Grenser copy.. mmmm, pretty boxwood. :D

Feel free to PM me if you'd like. :)

I'll also recommend--Jan Boland's book on playing Baroque flute. Very good reference for starting out--it's geared toward flute players (modern mainly) who are new to the Baroque flute. Some nice tunes included as well. :D

For those who are interested:
That's José Maria del Carmen Ribas, a fine player who succeeded Nicholson at the King's Theatre in 1837.

My avatar is William Wollaston (painted in 1759 by Thomas Gainsborough). The Wollastons had a number of philosophers and scientist in the family, but unfortunately this William was a gambler who even had to sell the family estates in order to settle his debts.

(Does this say something about the difference between Treeshark and me?)

The national portrait gallery that owns this picture says it's of Charles Nicholson himself... here's the link.

Here's Ribas.

Yep, sorry about that, but you didn't really expect me to know something about 'modern' players, did you?

  Ha, though I looked up Ribas, Rockstro has a bit about him, interesting. I like your how section, on your site, I visited Chris Wilkes' workshop recently and I'm amazed at the number of hugely skilled operations it takes to make a tooter!

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

Amazing how much is involved in making (well) a simple tube with a few holes in it, eh?
