This thread is surreal. I think I walked through the looking glass and am in a room full of people painted by Toulouse-Lautrec. They are whispering and oohing about the coolest but most bizarre of things, of which I have never heard, and I am wearing Reeboks. No, actually Easy Spirits.

Where is Dubh? At least I've freakin' heard of Bob Dylan.

Well, most of the time, I like to listen to stuff that I know well.

Nothing in the past twenty years or so has hit me as much as the "old " stuff.

Bob, and the new one is something to behold, Joni, Laughin' Lenny, Lou Reed, Stills, and the truly great Bonnie Riatt, or is that Raitt..I can never remember.

Trad wise there will always be the Bothys. Nothing will ever compare to the passion and pride therein. Altan come close, though the distance between them is vast. The late great Sean McGuire will always be an inspiration and a ideal. I know less than nothing about flute playing but every time I hear Tansy I think about, or more to the point regret, not playing the flute.

In other areas there will always be Doc, Scruggs, Vassar Clements, Chubby Wise, Jerry Rivers, Byron Berline..and that's just for starters.

Schuberts 5th is beyond all belief, as is Ludwig Vans Sonatas for Violin and Piano..then there is Van the Man..and then there is the only true original of our time, Tom Waits.

Apart from that..the only time I ever reach across to turn up the volume on the radio or TV, is when I hear the opening bars of "Dancing Queen".. a perfect song from a perfect band.

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Hmmm, brushing off a randy new man is not always an easy job. ;-)

Pauline Croze. You can listen to clips on Amazon.fr (the CD's available from Amazon.com too but they don't have sound samples).
A collection of albums for those who like that sort of thing:

I seem to share some CD's with Bloomfield

Bought that in Ennis on Peter's recommendation. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. Strong, earthy fiddling. (available at Ossian USA)
Met Breda at billh's house when I picket up my pipes :D Great CD!

Last purchase:
Tom Waits "Orphans", a 3 CD box you can't live without :D

Just as food, beer, and liquor threads are surreal. I believe it's a common internet phenomena.

I'm wearing a Timex watch.

I'm listening to my talking Pillsbury Doughboys and Nailbunny.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm
