From the last week or so's worth of driving to work:

The Fugs, Electromagnetic Steamboat: The Reprise Years (Although I kind of wish I'd remembered to grab No More Slavery from the office for a bit of driving I have to do tomorrow.)

Bob Dylan, Modern Times, Live 1975, John Wesley Harding

Chris Norman, The Man With the Wooden Flute (he's playing in the Albany NY area on Nov. 25, see http://www.oldsongs.org/concerts.html

Paul Motian, I Have the Room Above Her

And there's a playlist I put together that I've been using a lot, with cuts from Charlie Musselwhite Sanctuary, Joan Baez Bowery Songs, Kris Krisofferson This Old Road, Tripswitch, the Solas renuion cd, Mike Rafferty, Richard Thompson Live on Austin City Limits, Peter Mulvey, Lucinda Williams...

Learning to play better is really on my "to do right NOW " list these days.

Good for you! I am trying to pick up more tunes right now, too.
Yes, it's good to know that I can do more than just chat about nonsense here on C&F! ;) Now that we're settled (in a manner of speaking anyway), it's back to trying to up my repertoire in a big way. I'm sorely lacking in skill at this point, which I absolutely attribute to lack of practice.
Thank for the recommendation as well. I'm always looking for something new to listen to. :)

Five Miles of Ellum Wood is really nice.

And if you're in that sort of mood:

Celtic Seasons of Enchantment by Will Millar is currently in the tape player in the car. Image

Or for a better picture, here's the CD: Image

If I try to play CDs on the computer it slows down so much I can't get anything done. And the big CD player is in the living room so I can only listen when my husband is not watching TV or reading (he can't have music on when he reads). Can't have a radio/tape player/CD player at work either. So it's mostly the old tape player in the car.

Listen to the Lindsays in these as well for modern versions, or the Busch Quartet recordings from the 1930s. I think that their A minor is still unsurpassed even today. Some of the finest Beethoven late quartet discs were recorded in the 1950s by the Hollywood Quartet, with Felix Slatkin. Just a bunch of people who specialised in playing film music but who got together to make these wonderful Beethoven quartet recordings. Somewhere on an ancient cassette I have the Smetana Quartet playing the C sharp minor. A real treasure.

If the singing of Julie Murphy entrances you as it did me, listen to her singing in Welsh on any of the Fernhill CDs. :)

Right now: Sambomaster.
I think the album is called "Wa Kimi Ni Katarikakeru"

Here's a video

This song is great, sounds really corny for the first minute or so, then it sort of gets going.
(the chorus in this version is really irritating. That "choir" is not there on the album)

I don't know. I am listening to NPR's american roots.
