Those photos sure make me want to be a space tourist....once they sort out a way to go fast, that is.... I mean, REALLY fast.
How do you prepare for the end of the world?

I remember when I was a kid my dad, who was an even bigger geek than I am, said something to someone else about a "Hubble Bubble." I wonder if this is what he was referring to?

...I guess I could ask him.

*edit* No, it wasn't. More related to the 70's hippie scene I suppose.

And Weekenders, I'm gonna have to concur with you on this one.

There was a joke about this ... can't quite remember the details ... something about eating beans and taking bubble baths ...

"Boastful" constellation Cassiopea? Eh?
The woman who was "Placed in the sky in a demeaning position" as a punishment for chaining Andromeda to the rock?
(and there are still people who claim that it is a "lady in a chair", hee hee!

Never mind the Art Galleries, people in Dallas better not let their kids look up at nighttime!)

Maybe speed isn't the key.

We have it stuck in our heads the shortest distance betwen "here" and "there" has to be to travel in a straight line between them.

Mayhap it is and mayhap it ain't.

But if everything hooks up to everywhere
And anything can be anywhere
You don't need to go from here to there
Because if you travel anywhere
You'll find you're still at home

If your entangled quanta just really don't wanna
Because they are all knotted up with Strings
And if all your protoparticles are crusted up with barnacles
And in your basement live Cthulhu things
Well, why would you want to roam?

You might as well stay at home.

Methinks you've read a lot of fantasy fiction.

Hubble, bubble, boil and trouble. Wasn't that by Bill the javelin rattler? Beth's son? :boggle:

Mayhap I have. :)

There is a phenomena called entaglement...it's what sometimes gets referred to as "spooky physics."

Entanglement basically works like this: say you have a photon of wavelength x. Nothing prevents you from changing that to two photons each with wavelength x/2.

So far, straightforward.

Here's the catch:

What happens to one photon happens instantly--note that I said "instantly," not "at the speed of light"--no matter how far apart they are.

Whether or not they are separated by a few nanometers, or a few inches, or a few light-years, what happens to one instantly happens to the other.

That's entanglement--at least, as much of it as I understand. Since nothing can exceed the speed of light, entangelement involves information travelling from point A to point B without crossing the space between them.

Happy Halloween! :D
