Tell us something.: I am in my 70s and played music since fourth grade. Paid gigs include everything starting with church solos in 4th grade, nightclubs starting 9th grade, and worship ministry. Had a 29 year career teaching high school music both choral and instrumental. I've played several instruments starting with trumpet as my main ax. I added flute, sax and keys after college. Early 2000s whistles were added to my arsenal. I'm back to playing again after a 5 year hiatus.

If whistles were outlawed what would be the last ones they would be prying from your dying hands? (limit is 5)

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

If whistles were outlawed, only outlaws would have whistles.

I have heard that there is a new multi-barreled whistle from Jubilee Whistles. Didn't some guy named Gatling try something like this? The modern version is capable of many more npm (notes per minute).

If whistles were outlawed, I'd be just fine since most people think that I am playing a flute or recorder.

 Isn't that the truth though? Seriously 9 out of 10 people call it either a flute or a recorder.

Anyway, they'd never get my Water Weasel.

Well, a recorder would be a fair improvement. A friend of mine told me some days ago that at the end of a gig, a guy got near and asked him:..."that thing...that stick with holes to make nice music, ...what is it?"

I'm serious.

I once had a kid ask me "how long have you been playing that shillelagh?" I wasn't even sure what to say to that.

I've finally got our sound guy calling it some form of whistle. It just sounds wrong though when he announces over the sound system "Can we get a level check on the slide whistle?"

I fear this thread has not gone the way preacher may have intended.
