Oh that's funny! Takes me back to the days when I lived in Boulder, CO. and all the local wanna be metal bands rented rehersal space at the same storage facility. The place was at one end of town (right near the local strip joint, of course) and when you'd come up on the place at night, you'd hear 6-10 bands like that going all at once, funny as hell. I rented a unit there where I had my giant, Neil Peart size drumset so I could practice without getting tossed out of my apartment, but to be honest, I got nearly as much entertainment out of listening to the other bands murder tunes like Final Countdown, not that it was a good song to begin with. You'd be surprised at just how many different ways there are to butcher a single tune

Okay, I'm not sure how many people are going to get this one, but it is hilarious. Colin, Brigitte, do NOT be drinking anything when you play this, or you'll end up a mess:

Ha. That's entertainment!

Now here's one I really do like. I'd forgotten all about this band yet they were one of my favorites in the mid seventies.

Yes, the Focus track is excellent. I haven't thought of it since ... the last time I thought of it ... which was ....

The Núñez link is definitely going to the UP forum for the benefit of the ridiculous little oinks who keep mentioning him.

I thought about posting it there originally, but I'm taking a break from bar fights for the moment.

Yes, that was pretty miserable. I love the way he holds it away from him during the break, like it farted or something.

I don't seem to quite understand what he is playing. Is it an electronic bagpipe? There is no air going in it, right? Or am I missing something. I hope I will not be too embarrassed by the answer!

Cynth, yes, you are correct. It is an electronic instrument that mimics several types of bagpipe, including UPs. It is also a MIDI controller, so when you finally give up pretending to play bagpipes, you can use it to drive your other synths.

Yep Cynth, it's a midi bagpipes.

That video was a real cracker when it was first released. He's an excellent traditional Asturian piper though.

Thanks for asking that Cynth. When I first saw it, I thought- What kinda goose it that thing? Then, I figured as much- no mouthpiece, no belows, only an electric cord.

I thought it was pretty well done, better than most quasi-trad-pop I hear. The MIDI pipes didn't sound that bad to me, it sounds like they used samples of real pipes, and it works pretty well with straight-ahead playing like that. I don't know how they'd work with the slides, barks, pops, etc., of Uilleann pipes in full flight.

I always got a kick out of this tune. I didn't know there was a video for it, but it sucks. Just listen to the great tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x92tq34pvpY

Ooo, look what I found! Pump up the volume:
