sculpting
I've never sculpted in my life, but for the last week I've been working on doing a rat, in memory of the Petaluma rats, most of whom (over 1,000) have been put to sleep now.
I've been working on it for a week. Here is what I have so far:
I have to smooth the clay out a lot still, make the front ankles smaller, give it eyes and fix the ears, and of course bake and paint it, but I think I'm doing pretty good for somebody who has never sculpted before.
If you want to watch a video of some of the rats you can see it here: http://cbs5.com/pets/local_story_181141223.html

I do not understand why the man is being allowed to keep his cats. There is obviously something terribly wrong with him and he shouldn't be allowed to have animals in his charge. What a horrible story. I am far more outraged that the situation was allowed to continue for so long than that most of the rats have been put down. There are worse things than death, and those rats went through them.
Your sculpture looks like it is coming along nicely.

Is too. That's Jesus of the RatsCranberry wrote:That's not a rat (it's also not Jesus).izzarina wrote:That rat is the size of a small dog or cat ::shiver::gonzo914 wrote:Jesus loved all the little rats --
And while we're on the subject of Jesus and rats, here's a lovely bit of sermonizing -- Jesus or 1300 Rats. I quit reading it, of course, once I figured out the author was against sin, but I still think that's a lovely title. I like the way it implies a choice.

So it didn't have anything to do with a fish shortage, eh?gonzo914 wrote:And while we're on the subject of Jesus and rats, here's a lovely bit of sermonizing -- Jesus or 1300 Rats. Is sculpting hard on the joints? Is that why your sculpture is standing on top of a box of spare elbows?Cranberry wrote:I've never sculpted in my life, but for the last week I've been working on doing a rat, in memory of the Petaluma rats, most of whom (over 1,000) have been put to sleep now.

"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."
They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!
He jested, quaff'd and swore."
They cut me down and I leapt up high

Either that's a very large rat or it's being caressed by a 2' 4" person.gonzo914 wrote:Jesus loved all the little rats --

If you went much farther in those pictures, you would have noticed that they did too...Joseph E. Smith wrote:
