Thanks. I think I'll go have a nap to celebrate.

Everybody sing along...

#1 reason to love Canada Day in BC: Yer not in Quebec! July 1 in Quebec is, from what folks tell me, MOVING DAY!

So far this weekend, 2 teenagers with regrettable ETOH poisoning, and a U.Statesian who blew off a finger with a firework, 2 days early.
Happily tooting when my dogs let me.

Too f@#$ing hot and humid to breath here. Sweating copiously and trying not to breath too much. Had Friday off instead on Monday. Need snow badly.

Really? We've had more rain in the past week than I can remember ever getting. I've been bailing out the basement with buckets and now I have to remove our garden from the pool.

Within North America, Mexico has Cinco de Mayo, Canada has Fête du Canada, and the US has Independence Day.

I'm just curious--what does Britain have? Did she ever declare her independence from another country?

Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican independence day. It simply commemorates the Battle of Puebla and, for some reason, has been picked up on by Americans as a day to drink magaritas and eat Mexican food. Mexican Independence Day (El Grito de Indepencia) is September 16:

Canada Day (formerly "Dominion Day") doesn't celebrate Canadian independence, but rather the formation of the union of the British North American provinces into a federation under the name "Canada.":

You know, I actually knew that. For some reason though, I mentally lump Cinco de Mayo in with July 4th and Canada day.
