Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican independence day. It simply commemorates the Battle of Puebla and, for some reason, has been picked up on by Americans as a day to drink magaritas and eat Mexican food. Mexican Independence Day (El Grito de Indepencia) is September 16:Cranberry wrote:Within North America, Mexico has Cinco de Mayo, Canada has Fête du Canada, and the US has Independence Day.
I'm just curious--what does Britain have? Did she ever declare her independence from another country?

Canada Day (formerly "Dominion Day") doesn't celebrate Canadian independence, but rather the formation of the union of the British North American provinces into a federation under the name "Canada.":

You know, I actually knew that. For some reason though, I mentally lump Cinco de Mayo in with July 4th and Canada day.Redwolf wrote:Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican independence day.
