Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Gotta Love the Internet....

Found this on a website while I was rummaging around for examples of Leonardo da Vinci's mirror writing (don't ask):

"The beginning of the sixteenth century is the most famous period of Italian art. It was the time of Michelangelo, Raphael, Dürer, Holbein, Giorgione, Titan, Correggio and many other famous masters."

And it was such a nice-looking site, too.

This is my favorite (or one of my favorites) from Dürer. I've often thought about how is signature is written; I like it.

Beginning, End - depends where you start from, doesn't it?
Ah, that Titan - I love his stuff! And his paintings are so BIG!
Pity about the hair colour, though...

See, this is what worries me. We can catch mistakes like this because we have a little knowledge. But what about other things. The other day I cited something that turned out to be wrong---I should have known better and wouldn't have used the source in a paper, but still. Libraries are good because the people deciding what books to buy are trained and have resources to help them make sure the library is spending its money wisely. We can try to assess the reliability of a website, but if one is truly ignorant about a topic then how can you even do that? Okay, sorry to get so serious.

I always get them mixed up, but when I don't, I can't spell them!

Me too. It remindes me of how Gustav Stickley signed his furniture-

That's Fiona Maggart, better known as Fiona Apple (Apple is actually her middle name).

Learn something new every day...
I thought it might be, but I wasn't sure. She looked quite
different in the newer pictures I saw when her album was
leaked, but that was a while ago.

She has very distinctive facial features. And she sings pretty. I like her.
