Edirol R-09 !! Updated with a pic and a mesmerizing video!
Well, there you go, I got my Edirol R-09 today! Ha-ha! Did anyone beat me to it or am I the first one on the board to have one? Are you all deeply jealous now! I certainly hope so. I am now happy to lower my ratio, yet again, of the quality music I play divided by the value of my recording gear. Must now be 1/100 or something.
Anyway, I will post a review and test clips later on this week.

- Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

I'm curious to hear what you think of the built-in mics...
I've got an M-Audio Microtrack that I use at work, but it needs an external mic and the battery life is only about 1/3 of the R-9. When/If prices come down enough that I can buy my own personal device, I'll probably get an R-9 unless something smaller & better has materialized.

I use a Marantz PMD660, with a handheld condenser (the built-ins suck):

How's the quality out of the Edirol?

I believe the Edirol in question records to SD, so moving the files to a computer is just a matter of popping the card into a card reader.fel bautista wrote:I've seen and heard both the Edirol and M-Audio recorders and I can't make up my mind which one I would like to own. Congrats on getting one. Post a sound file when you get a chance. How easy is it to move files across from recorder to computer?? Tell us all that good stuff.

Actually, it comes with a USB cable, you simply need to plug it in the device to transfer the MP3 files on the SD card. It can handle cards of 2MB, this is what I'm going to buy this week.Congratulations wrote: I believe the Edirol in question records to SD, so moving the files to a computer is just a matter of popping the card into a card reader.
The device cost me 400$US, this is the general price for the device.
I will tape a few tunes this week and test the recording capabilities, now it's kind of late so I don't want to upset my neighbors

does this offer any advantages over an iRiver (other than reverb, which one can always add on the computer)? The great thing about the iRiver is it has 20 gigs of storage (heck, I sometimes use it to transfer big files between computers) as well as good sound; the only drawback is the inability to monitor the input level.

Hehe, yes, 2GB!rh wrote:2MB? You mean 2GB, right? 2MB isn't much capacity at all.Azalin wrote:It can handle cards of 2MB, this is what I'm going to buy this week.
Yes, it has a line-in jack for external microphone. Advantages over the iRiver is the weight, the speed at which it can start recording (instatneous compared to 20-30 seconds boot sequence) and also doesnt require an external microphone (if the internal microphone is good enough with the Edirol, which I think it will be for sessions). You can also adjust recording level externally and some other goodies, and you can see the recording meter, so you know when you are really recording or not, the iRiver doesnt show anything, just "recording", so I had many blank tracks because my microphone was off.
