Broadway weekend
Olivia's 16th birthday is on Thursday. She knows the entire libretto to a good number of shows, not to mention the entire dialog to Pirates of the Caribbean. Two of her favorites are RENT and Phantom of the Opera, so the girls and I took the train Friday afternoon, saw RENT Friday night, and the Saturday matinee of Phantom. Excellent.
L to R: Olivia, Rachel, and Becca waiting for the train in Baltimore.
This is me in front of the Algonquin hotel.
Here is why I might not have posted this pic--due to my inordinate fondness for Newton's third law of motion, I felt compelled, as usual, to blink just as the shutter opened.
Here's why I posted it anyway--Bloomfield took it. Really. Go ahead, don't believe me.
Wait, I'll prove it. See the girls in front of the Blue Bar? Go ask the bartender. He'll tell you. Had a drink with Bloo right in there, then the girls and I went to see RENT. If he tells you I was in there with Elvis he's lying.
Girls in the Nederlander Theater. These are some major Rentheads. Sad to say, we did not have the $20 front row tickets they award in a nightly lottery.
After the Phantom matinee on Saturday, we ate in Ellen's Stardust Diner. If it were up to me, hiking several blocks out of Times Square would do wonders for my appetite. But I didn't pick. The wait staffers here are all Broadway wannabes--and this was fun: Crowded and tacky maybe, but these kids could sing. Here I'm trying to include the couple who were on a table behind the girls singing Puttin' on the Ritz, but my camera was having a slow day.
By the end of Saturday you could pretty much wipe the floor with us. I tried to bump us to an earlier train, but was informed that we'd lose our AAA discount and I'd owe them another $200. I declined and we went to Starbucks and sat around acting punch drunk. Here are the girls in Penn Station waiting for our track number.

(Let me tell you--there were some worn springs on that baby. I nearly sank to floor level)Bloomfield wrote:Actually, I've lost some weight recently. She took one seat, and I the other.dubhlinn wrote:Did you let Emm sit in your seat at the Round table ?Bloomfield wrote: Eat your heart out, dubhlinn.

Those pictures are dandy. I'm glad you had fun. Why is Bloomfield at your house? Doesn't that scare you?
If you go to Memphis, tell me and Missy ahead of time, and we can make it a day (or a week) together.Walden wrote:I think I might like to visit the big apple some day. Or, I could go to Memphis. Memphis is relatively close.

- Tell us something.: This is the first sentence. This is the second of the recommended sentences intended to thwart spam its. This is a third, bonus sentence!

A flat? I had a flat on my mountain bike last week. Must have been some roots I ran over.emmline wrote:The Algonquin's not really my house, Cran, though we all love Eloise at the Plaza so I think if they offered us a flat for cheap, we'd take it.Cranberry wrote:Why is Bloomfield at your house? I spent a week in Memphis a few years back, mostly drinking on Beale Street, with occasional time out to attend the conference for which the federal government was picking up the tab. The feds put us up at the Peabody, which was way to close to Beale for them to expect more than sporadic attendance. The street musicians are excellent, and all in all, it was the bestest vacation ever. And I got paid for doing it.Walden wrote:I think I might like to visit the big apple some day. I have never been drunk in New York City, but I can't see where it would be any better.
