Court and Spark
Does anybody else on here think that Joni Mitchell's "Court and Spark" is a perfect album?

Court and Spark is pretty near perfect. I think right now, Hissing of Summer Lawns is my favorite; Ladies of the Canyon, Clouds, Hejira, and C&S all get lots of playing time too.

- Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

Yes. And I think if you subtract 'He's Mistra KNow it All' Stevie Wonder's 'Innervisions' is a perfect album.

Anyone who likes Joni (especially her jazzier side), and hasn't seen the "Shadows and Light" video, is in for a real treat after they rush out to get it. If you want to buy it from Amazon.com, Use the C&F link so C&F gets a cut.
I like Machine Head too, even if it is chick music.

The idea of a perfect album is an interesting one. I wonder how many of the albums I regard as best I think of as perfect—probably not many I think.
I like Joni Mitchell but probably not that much. In this area of music, the albums that come to mind as perfect are Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Dick Gaughan's Handful of Earth and Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited.

Throw "Ladies of the Canyon" in there and you have four of the greatest albums ever made.scottielvr wrote:Yes.
"Blue" is also perfect. And "Hejira" is perfectest.
"Amelia", from the "Hejira" album, is probably the greatest song ever written by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Years and years of chain smoking have destroyed the once great voice so she has retired from performing and recording and spends her days painting, another art form at which she excels.
One of the all time greats...and she is 1/4 Irish

We could go on forever listing perfect albums, but think about it. A perfect album means every track is excellent, both the music and the lyrics. I don't think I could name many where I can't associate with the lyrics of one or more songs, or I think the arrangement is cliche, or whatever.
One of my favourite concept albums is Olias of Sunhillow by Jon Anderson. While it has many problems, it comes close IMHO to being a completely great album.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.
