I also, have been watching this thread with interest. I have prepared a summary of what has been nominated up to this point. I will see how many of them I can find on JC's ABC tune finder and create links to them. Any help with other sources would be great. Of course, some of them are copyrighted so we won't be able to get them. Ultimately I'd like to get as many of the nominations together as possible and create a big ABC file.

"My Heart Will Go On" by just about anybody
I'm assuming this is a joke.....Certainly not a traditional Irish tune by any stretch....I'm surprised Chris L. did not have something to say about it

An Leanbh Siog (The Fairy Child) is a lovely air. It's on Sean Ryans' 'Take the Air' album.

I played "I am asleep don't wake me," at funeral in Boston for a dear friend who died of pelvic cancer complications, that's after surviving ovarian cancer five years ago, she was only fifty-three.

MarkB

PS I won't play that tune any time soon for any reason.

There is this tune called "Baptism" on an Irish CD called "Lifescapes: Ireland" - that tune always makes me feel like I could cry. It's a beautiful tune.

I've changed my opinion in the days since I first posted on this thread. Now it's undoubtedly Amhran na Leabhair as sung by Emer Kenny.

My problem is I start blubbering
when I play these and can't finish.
No one's mentioned 'Down by the
Sally Gardens', so I will.

The single most depressing song (I
know this is different) is Karen
Casey's rendition of 'The Unquiet
Grave' on Solas' 'Sunny Spells
and Scattered Showers.'
Also on the same CD, 'Vanished Like
the Snow,' by KC, too. (I finally
figured out that it is about Helen
of Troy, Heloise and Abelard, and
Joan of Arc, in that order.) Not
depressing, but I played it yesterday for
a friend who accounted for a box of kleenex.

Have a look around there, might find something else too.

Same here, got all inspired by this one, can still listen to it over and over again without tiring of it.

Also Cherish the Ladies, The Ballad of the Foxhunter on Threads of Time , just beautiful and Sliabh Geal gCua by Joannie Madden.
