Charlie,

How does this instrument play. I've always been curious. Thanks.

Wow! It is truly awesome to hear about everyones collection of whistles & other instruments! I may feel a little inadequate, but otherwise, I'm very impressed.
Thanks for the great response!

I only own 2 whistles  A green 'C' Sweetone, and a ugly black with diamonds Clarke 'D'

My Sweetone has runes on it in silver so it won't get mixed up with my friend's whisles!

I'm not as qualified to comment on this as I am on whistles, but I won't let that stop me. I've never been able to play a silver flute, and I'm a rank beginner on wooden flutes.

This one is walnut, and pretty thin-walled, so even with all the overhead, it weighs less than the Burns blackwood flute and no more than the Schultz in cocobolo. I find it very easy to play -- easy to get sound out of, easy register changes. I can't get into the third octave with it, but I'm not sure that's just not me. The sound is okay -- not thin by any means, but somehow lacking a lot of complexity and fullness. You'll never confuse it with a high-end flute, but it's not expensive (about $300), and, from talking to Ralph, he really puts a lot of work into these. I bought this one in January, and he still had three from the same batch (he said they all play well) left. It is a lot of fun -- okay for a day trip, but you really can't take it on vacation, because the wood would probably suffer if you left it in a hot car for extended periods.

Well, after reading everyone else's lists, I don't feel so bad about how mnay I have, which I see now is relatively FEW:

LBW D
Waltons Mellow D
A strange homemade brass D that has a extra bottom C hole that I got from someone on C&F
Clarke Natrual C
Sweetone C
Meg C
2 Gens Bb - a nickel and a brass but I stuck the brass fipple on the nickel body so I guess I really only have *one* now
Shaw A
Dixon A
Dixon G

And finally a Susato A-G-F set that I really want to sell because I never play them and I need the money for more whistles. Anyone interested?

I only have two at this point:
- a Walton D (I don't play it much: I think I lost it, and
- a Susato low D

I like playing the low whistles much more than the others. My birthday is coming up, so I should be getting another low whistle - a Howard low D - sometime soon (yippee!)

NONE!! 'WAAIIIILLLL!!'
I've misplaced them somehow in unpacking after my trip. I must return to my search after I finish catching up on the forum.
But if I find my whistles, i'll have two again.

I guess I will have to come out of the closet too now since everyone else has! I have 9 now that I gave my son-in-law my feadog.
and for the unfinished list, cuz I still have the major WhOA's going on but it's on hold until the milk prices come back up again. Dairy farming stinks right now!

1 Beautiful Copper Parkhurst quiet D (My Favorite)

1 Cooperman D (surprisingly also perfectly in tune Blarney Pilgrim!) Thats 2 out of how many million!

1 Walton D who/whom will be having a birthday this Saturday at the Ligonier Scottish games. My very first whistle! 1 year

1 Real Clarke D

1 FREE Real Clarke C Thank you to Steve at Shana Quay. I love Birthdays! Image

1 FREE Generation D Thank you again Steve

1 FREE Doolin D Thank you again Steve!!!

1 Meg D (I gave the other 2 away to my unsuspecting mother and daughter)

1 Dixon Low D

I think my next whistle will be a Silkstone after listening to Lolly's CD's. Great Sounds Lolly!!!

That sums it up for now.

Kathy

 I've got TWO whistles: a Susato D, and a Susato low D. Actually, I do have a Waltons D somewhere, but I haven't seen it in months.
And believe it or not, I don't have any desire to buy more of them! ...Well, the Megs do intrigue me slightly, and they only cost a few dollars, after all...
