Traditional music...or not?
I'm curious (and procrastinating on an English assignment). How traditional is the music you generally listen to? It doesn't necessarily have to be ITrad, it could be Scottish or anything else "Celtic-y".
My vote is for the category with groups like Lunasa, Flook, Gaelic Storm, Old Blind Dogs, etc. They're still using the traditional music, but giving it a nice shake-up. I enjoy listening to everything except groups like Wolfstone that are just too untraditional for me.

- Tell us something.: Whistle player, aspiring C#/D accordion and flute player, and aspiring tunesmith. Particularly interested in the music of South Sligo and Newfoundland. Inspired by the music of Peter Horan, Fred Finn, Rufus Guinchard, Emile Benoit, and Liz Carroll.

I chose the first category. But....
What interests me about this is that (I think) the person who put up the quiz was trying to list the selections from "most trad" to "least trad", but my second favorite category would be the fourth category, most notably the bands Crowd of Bold Sharemen, Old Blind Dogs, Lunasa, and the Mahers Bahers. Unlike, say, Flook, the bands I like from this category play mostly very traditional material. They have great respect for the tradition, while their more modern arrangements are a bit of a break from my usual CDs of one or two old guys playing tunes all the way through.

Yeah, I roughly set it up in order of traditionality (is that a word?). I gave some examples of what I had intended, but even individual bands vary depending on what CD you listen to. I had in mind the sound of the group, not the actual tunes themselves. I personally don't care whether they write their own tunes that sound trad or use actual trad ones.
I almost agree with you. I like the 4th category the best, but then I'd say the 1st category would come in second.
