Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

I've only got four that I play regularly:
Bb Water Weasel
C brass Generation
D Oak
D Dixon
and a Grinter in high D that should be on its way to me in about two weeks (we'll see if it takes over for the Dixon and Oak...).

This is the first time I've listed my whistles on a post . . .

Sweet tone in D
Tony Dixon in D
Ralph Sweet (rosewood) in D
Generation in high G and C(just for fun)
Walton's LBW in D
Clark's tweeked orginal in D

Oh, yes, the dreaded Low D from Suato

I keep most of them in a nice thickly padded pouch I bought from Lark in the Morning.

I haven't bought a whistle in over a year. WHOA is past. Now I'm plotting for a guitar, which I still haven't bought, but I will this fall. I just ordered a set of instructional tapes on DADGAD from Homespun Tapes and have started browsing through a acoustic guitar site.

I have gone over to the dark side.
I sing the birdie tune
It makes the birdies swoon
It sends them to the moon
Just like a big balloon

Hmmm...

My wife's whistles: Clarke D original, Generation D blue-top, Walton LBW, Parkhurst E-flat, and Sweetone C. She also used to have a Susato D but gave it to one of her best friends who wanted to learn whistle.

My whistles: Clarke C original, Clarke C Sweetone, "Celtic" Sweetone D, unpainted Sweetone D, Meg D, Sweet Rosewood D, Sweet rosewood Killourhy D, Susato D-C-Bb set, Susato VSB D, 4 Generation D's (1 tweaked redtop, 1 good-out-of-the-box redtop, 1 bluetop, 1 greentop "folk"), 2 Walton brass D's, a Walton "Mello D", a heavily-tweaked Walton Guinness, three cane whistles ("sort of D") a Dixon D, a 2-piece Clare D, a Susato wide-bore low D, and an M&E polymer session D. I think that's all.

It's enough I'll probably get in trouble if my wife reads this!

Hmmm again...forgot some the first time round. Also Acorn D (a really nice whistle, by the way), and Feadog D (which I love for reels and jigs and hate for anything else).

Best to all,

--James

Hmmmmm.

How many and what? Seems easier to list first then count, I think.

Overton: Low D, A, Bb, C, D, Eb
Chieftain: Low F, Low G, E
Silkstone: D
Hoover: Brass C, Narrow Bore D
Dixon: Low D
Water Weasel: C/D/E Set
Oak: D
Acorn: D
Feadog: D
Walton: Mellow D, LBD, Guinness D
Clare: 2-piece
Generation: Brass: C, D, G
Generation Nickel: Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G
Generation Antique G
Sweetone, 2 Cs
Susato: Low D, A, Bb/C/D Set
McHaffie C/D set
Cooperman American Fife (acually a rather gaudy pennywhistle)
Two Melody Flutes (Fifes with a permanent whistle mouthpiece), one plastic, one Metal both C

Antiques:

Calura B
Victor C
Eagle E
Pied Piper (Germany, US Occupied Zone) E
Two Old American ('20s) unmarked, roughly E
American souvenir whistle, maker unknown, approximately 1940s, roughly B
European, probably 19th century, similar to melody Flute, that Thomas Hastay identified as a "dummy's flute" for folks who couldn't play the real thing (like me).

So, counting everything, only 48 if you count the mouthpieces, 53 if you count all the tubes.

And just think - my WhOA passed about a year and a half ago.

Well so far :

Generation Bb-C-D-Eb-F-G
Sweetone (of course) D "play it all the time"whistle
Walton little black D
Shaw D
Clark C-D
TWZ (german) D
Chieftain high and low D
Overton low D
Howard low D
Susato low F
a polymer low D
and soon a Thin Weasel D I hope

So that makes it 17 so far, but it's not the quantity but the quality that counts I think.
cheers,
Erik
Listen, play and have fun!

Complete set of Sindts: Eb, D, C, Bb, A
Overton: A, low F, bass A
Burke: low G, low F
lots and lots of great generations. One Feadog D with a Generation head... plays great.
So that makes ten and a bunch

This is almost like show and tell! What whistles do I have? Other than the ones I make, I have:

Generation, 2 high G's (one old style), F, D, C & Bb

Shaw, (Gifts from my Mom,) Low D and G

Clark D

and some horrible one I can't remember the name of.

I also have 3 flutes, one open holed, one yamaha closed and one that is broken.

I have a wooden recorder, an old alto recorder and a collection of fifes.

As for other instruments (not that you asked, but hey, I love them too...)

alto sax,
electric guitar,
small accordion,
2 keyboards,
piano,
fiddle,
cizo...

Well, lessee

Four Chieftain Gold whistles in soprano D, A, low F and low D
Two Dixons, soprano D and Low D
Clarke Meg in soprano D
Soodlum in soprano D
Clarke Original in soprano D
Plus a Jubilee low D and bodies for low G and bass A that should be here fairly soon.

So, that makes 12.
