Every once in a while I find it is a good idea to change my C&F password.

(Has any one’s account ever been hacked by a spammers?)

Question to the people out there, any good ideas for a password?

Actually, a short turn of phrase from a favorite book, the more obscure and unlikely the better, might do the trick.

A friend of mine in the national guard says they make them use a password with 2 capital letters, 2 lower-case letters, 2 numbers, 2 special chars (*, &, _, etc), and two more characters of their choosing.

I thought it was interesting if a little paranoid. Personally I use a password with a couple of letters and a lot of numbers I can do on the keypad.

Some time back there was a joke email where somebody had to memorise eight passwords and his head exploded.

My work insists that I change passwords every month. They must have at least two of the following: An upshifted letter, any punctuation, any digit.
It must be at least six characters long. You cannot repeat the same password in a six-month period.

But when I told Internal Services my password a while ago they were impressed. "I'd never have got that," they said.

I use one of Shakespeare's Sonnets.
Here's sonnet 27:

Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed,
The dear repose for limbs with travel tir'd;
But then begins a journey in my head,
To work my mind, when body's work's expir'd:
...etc

Take the initial letters and convert letters to numbers as & when possible.
So these lines become passwords as follows:

If it's a poem or a song that you remember, you are less likely to forget your password. And it is very hard to crack.

Most of us suffer from "password fatigue," I know I do. I try to use one password for all the sites and services I use that don't particularly need to be secure, and another more complex one for more secure sites that involve monetary transactions. But that plan has been foiled frequently by sites that require you to set a password of a minimum length or combination of letters and numbers that's different from my default password. Hence I have lots of different passwords, far more than I could possibly remember. The solution for managing these passwords is a software keychain -- I use the one that comes with every Mac computer, but there are keychains available for Windows as well. You only have to remember one password -- the one for your keychain -- and once you unlock your keychain you can see all your passwords. I even keep my ATM card password and my lock combinations in my keychain. It's a lifesaver!

I do much the same thing, but with very naughty phrases I compose in my head...that way, no one is sure to guess them

I just write all my passwords down and keep them next to my computer in a notebook on the cover of which I've written PASSWORD BOOK. My bank account PIN number is on a useful little sticker I found that fits nicely on the front of my bank card. Hope this helps!

My passwords are fun...

They are in these formats, and there are about 20 of them I've created and memorized. I've got emergency password reset disks made for all of them, which are stored away in a place only me and my brother knows of. On top of that, he knows all of the passwords.

Or you could just choose something no one would ever expect, like PANCAKES or POPCORN.
