Automatic login ... or, the cookie crumbles.

Post by scottielvr »

I've had this problem forever, but only now am getting around to wondering publicly about it. I use Firefox (v.1.5.0.2), and have never been able to get the "log me in automatically every time" check box on the login page for the boards to work. I've checked the box relentlessly, but it never "takes." I've tried going into my FF options, Privacy, Cookies, and telling it to allow cookies for the url of the chiffboard login page, but no joy. Anyone? TIA.

Tell us something.: I've like been here forever ;)
But I guess you gotta filter out the spambots.

Yep, got that set; it's sitting there uselessly in the list o'cookies. Something else must be blocking it...but what?

lol, I guess I shoulda read your message more thouroughly...sorry :) I'm at work trying to get our network up (24 hours so far over the weekend)..

Have you tried deleting the cookie & clearing your cache? Sometimes a corrupt cookie can do something like that.

What do you mean by "it doesn't take?"

How long does it "take" for? It doesn't seem to be permanent--it seems to reset at midnight.

Does anyone have it stay active indefinitely?

I use this board software elsewhere. You can check that box and sign in, and it'll keep recognizing you until midnight.

I mean that I have never been able to get the checkbox to work, i.e., to remain checked for each visit. Put another way, I have never been able to log in other than by "manually" logging in each time. My understanding is that such things set cookies on your browser...but my browser is having none of it.

It's not such a big deal...just two extra clicks...but multiply the two clicks by several times a day....7 days a week....52 weeks a year....I'm worn out just thinking about it.

And it works for Congratulations. What's he got that I haven't got--besides youth, energy and wit?
