What kind of music do you play on your whistle?

Post by falkbeer »

Do you play just reels and jigs on your whistle or do you use it for other musical styles too? I think you can choose multiple options? In other case Choose the option you prefere most.

Tell us something.: Whistle player, aspiring C#/D accordion and flute player, and aspiring tunesmith. Particularly interested in the music of South Sligo and Newfoundland. Inspired by the music of Peter Horan, Fred Finn, Rufus Guinchard, Emile Benoit, and Liz Carroll.

I play my own compositions, too, but they're intended to be in the Irish style. (Though I plan on trying to write a few Newfoundland "doubles" at some point, too.)

Sigh... again with no "all of the above" choice... I give up!

Yeah, I'm needing an "all-of-the-above" category, too.

I play about equal mixtures of Celtic and American and Canadian fiddle tunes, (which many would still call Celtic, but which we refer to as "oldtime").

But one of my favorite riffs on whistle is the opening line to Canned Heat's "Goin' Up the Country"!

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

A major catagory left out is spiritual/religeous. We spend a lot of time playing this type of music.

I´ve noticed that one can´t make multiple choices. If you have more than one preferences, please vote several times instead!

Mainly Irish trad, also a good bit of rock with the band.

Have also dabbled in playing classical on whistle.

And a few unclassifiable original compositions.

anything I can! But my desire and love is traditional Irish music. But, I'll play a little johnny cash, flogging molly, dropkick murphys, gaelic storm, Chieftains, Pogues, The Real McKenzies, christmas music, yankee doodle songs, any other random children's tune, pretty much anything I possibly can play, and want to play, I play it.
