Hep me somebody!!!!!

Seriously, much of my 1981 was spent listening to Bush of Ghosts, Remain in Light (Talking Heads) and Discipline (King Crimson).

I saw both T-Heads and Crimson live at SIU on those album tours.

What a great year.

That is one remarkable album. America is waiting...

He's so high you can't get over him.
He's so low you can't get under him.
He's so wide you can't get around him.
If you make your bed in Heaven he's there.
If you make your bed in Hell he's there.
He's everywhere.

Woo! Help me somebody.

I am about to tell you about something that will change your life.

We're talking about the album "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" by David Byrne and Brian Eno. It's just been reissued. It is widely regarded as one of the most influential albums in the last...however long it's been out. They took field recordings and recordings taken from radio broadcasts and set them to dazzling music. Most of the recordings are of a religious/spiritual nature, a few with more political overtones. So, we have pentocostal preachers, we have an exorcism, we have Middle Eastern singers, we have an indignant talk show host. The music is something like rock music, but I've never, to this day, heard anything quite like it. The track "Help Me Somebody" is one of the most powerful antidepressants I've ever run across.

Someone new to the recording might listen to it before and not realize how influential it was, because SINCE it came out, we've heard lots of artists use this method. Moby, for example, made a zillion dollars doing it.

Oh, and I'm a proud owner of a rare issue of the CD which contains the song Qu'ran which was deleted in subsequent pressings, including this issue, because it was offensive to Muslims, evidently.

I like Moby. Sinéad O'Connor sang with him on a song called "Harbour." Thank you for explaining it for me and Walden. I thought "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" had something to do with the president.
