It's a flute made by the legendary Irish flutemaker Paddy McChud. Gary Kelly owns several. Paddy used to work with equally legendary Uilleann Pipemaker Willie McSink, whose pipes were descibed in An Piobaire during the 1980s.

Peter, let's not forget Paddy McNotChud (have I spelled that correctly?) who is regarded as something of a living legend in his own right.

Treeshark used to have one of the prized McChud hole-less bogoak models, until his missus found out what he'd paid for it and broke it over his head. Paddy McChud is indeed a legend in his own mind!

McChud is just a generic brand name for a crappy flute.
McNotChud being the opposite, of course.
"Chud" is Brittish slang, which I think is analagous to
"piece of crap" in America.

I'm fairly certain that the McChud corporation has endeavored to make more than just flutes. I think I had some of their coffee just the other day.

A British member of the board posted a link to an article claiming that scientists had invented a new swear word - chud.
The word has since been taken up as a very useful word by various members of the board.

Well! All of you people to the east of me have ruined my opportunity of passing on my McChud hole-less.
Which, of course, I was only willing to part with because I realize that I will never be equal to it's greatness...
that and lacking the hole down the center there is no place for the lamp cord.

Well, I did
, but at the last minute I added the "Flute Lamp Modification Kit" option.

Ah ha! I'd forgotten that you are a strict traditionalist!
My bad.
Personally I don't care for the hose clamps holding the lamp cord up the side.

Right, clear enough about Mr. McChud.
Peter, what about that Willie McSink? He's said to be the unofficial creator of the three-holed bellows improvement.
