I've tried and tried to think of a single event and I really can't. Many times I have longed to travel through time, but it has been more the desire to see what every day life was like at a certain time. Or what the people were like who left certain traces of themselves. Of course, if I did go back I would probably immediately be burned at the stake or worse so I would like to go back invisibly and spy on people!

Interesting query.

An actual medieval fair and tournament (A big one) would be loads of fun.

Hmm... I don't think I'd actually have wanted to *be* there, dubh. A lot of lead flying about. And to see those men in a situation that must have felt like defeat at the time... It would be a hard thing to witness.

And, like izzarina's choice of Joseph and Grace's wedding, how much poignancy can a heart bear without breaking?

History has afforded these people the victory and dignity they deserved, but it's too sad they couldn't know it while they lived.

OT aside: 'Grace' must be Jim McCann's finest moment. Still makes me cry (as long as there's no one around!).

My heart breaks whenever I think about it anyway. I realize that I'm overly "romantic" so to speak. But for me, I would want to be a witness to such a love that spans more than just 2 people. Grace married him with the full knowledge that she was going to have to give him up just hours afterwards. So, in a very real way, they shared a love that most people will never know; a love so strong between them both that they were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their love of their country. These are the things that one only reads about...Grace Gifford is like a hero to me in so many ways. Her strength and love of Joseph as well as of Ireland are an inspiration to me. If only I could have an ounce of what she had. Grace Gifford was a woman of the ages.

I agree....and I don't care if anyone is around when I cry ;)

BTW, welcome back, Buddhu. You were missed :)

When you say "present at some event in history", are we talking just as an observer or an active participant? If you're just observing through the window of your time machine, it may allow for more things than if you were actively involved.
If you have to be part of the action, I guess we would have to allow for sex changes too, because there are many interesting times where one probably would not want to be if they were female. For instance, in a shield wall fighting against the Sassenach...
A few things I would like to experience although they aren't necessarily single event deals:
- fighting under Brian Boru
- being on a ship with Grace O'Malley
- stopping King Niall from bringing Patrick to Ireland as a hostage

I'd like to go back a hundred thousand years, a couple of hundred
thousand years, even
a million years, and see what hominids
were like.

Hi, Buddhu; good to see you.

Do you mean as an observer or as a participant?

If just as an observer, I'm not sure I can think of a event of the magntude of the preceeding suggestions. But there are a couple of people I'd like to see naked again. That was pretty eventful for me.

And if as a participant . . . well, there are a couple of people I'd like to see naked again.
