Bach birthday quote (suitable for all instruments..)

Post by brewerpaul »

On this anniversary of the birth in 1685 of Johann Sebastian Bach, his take on organ playing:
"Playing the organ is nothing impressive. All one has to do is press the right keys at the right time, and the instrument plays itself."

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

With 21 children, hard to say.
How do you prepare for the end of the world?

I often wonder where he found the time to compose..or vice versa.

Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Yes, indeed. I mean, take into consideration that he sired 32 children with two wives... though not at the same time, he was Lutheran. Somebody who has the time to do that can't possibly be hard at work doing much of anything (apart from the obvious)... am I right in this? :D

As a young'un I used to go to my parents and tell them whenever I found out something interesting. Bach's progeny was one of those things. Dad said, "He must've been a polygamist." "No, he was a Lutheran," I replied. I didn't get why they laughed.

It's his wives I take my hat off to. They must have been blinking athletes.

And that phrase of a colleague's comes to mind:

"...Waving your arm in a warm room..."
