I second that.Joseph E. Smith wrote:You must watch that movie! Not only is it a great concert with great music, but the show is brilliant. David Byrne really gives an energetic (and inspired) performance. The band and the movie are among my favorite musical things of all time!Cynth wrote:Maybe renting the video would be best since I'm not much of a rock listener. I'll look for it. I did think it was sort of funny, just not for the same reasons everyone else did. I will be filling in a gap in my education.djm wrote:Cynth, may I suggest you rent the video "Stop Making Sense" to get a chance to both see Talking Heads on stage (hilarious) as well as hear some of their best tunes (excellent). That should give you a good grounding to appreciate the TH's sense of humour, and why this little obscurity is so funny.

Back in the day, "Stop making Sense" was the late night cinema show in the only cinema to open late. The queues were long and stoned but it was worth the wait.
I got there about six times and enjoyed every moment of the film.
I often break out the DVD, not so much for the memories of the time, but for the music.
It will always stand up...every home should have a copy.

Sorry FF; should have said that better - I meant I'd never heard of the folks he mentioned. I see your point though. An O'Donnell without a clue of the Gael - how sad is that. My dad went and died on me before he taught me any, the b'stard.fearfaoin wrote: Actually, "Slan" is Irish for "Cheers", Dubh is his moniker of choice.

Meh. I'd take issue with that. Granted, they do tend toward the enigmatic and overly dramatic, the Talking Heads do it in a sort of ironic, playful way. And that's hardly all they bring to the table. A bunch of very talented musicians, led by an insightful eccentric in a big suit. And, with a bit of exploration, most of even the most enigmatic of Mr. Byrne's lyrics are proven to be comprehensible and witty and relevant.Michael31856 wrote:Personally, I'd say they're glamourbombers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glamourbomb
And what's wrong with glamourbombing in the first place?

Ah, perhaps I trod heavy on the light. It was a compliment. I'm fond of raising ambient magic, which is of course what music does. Blessed be the glamourbombers, Fae or not - all is good when perceptions are heightened and transformation occurs.Congratulations wrote:And what's wrong with glamourbombing in the first place?
