Do you mean pinching people or wearing green? Either way, it's been my experience that neither stops after middle school.

That's exactly why I DO celebrate St. Patrick's Day  It's also my son's feast day (his name is Seán Patrick), and so it makes it even more special.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone.

Yours truly wrote:The pinching, and you need to move to a less benighted state, methinks.
Forgive me, that was brash. I'm just appalled at the immaturity that
entails. I assure you, that didn't happen in my High School, and in
college we were busy with other things to really remember it was
StPD. Wormdiet, are your students getting pinchy today? I hope not.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone.
At the root of it, that's why everybody who celebrates it celebrates it with Saint Patrick being, after all, a religious figure.

I tend to think that if you were to ask most people, they wouldn't even know who St. Patrick was at all. But in a sense, you are right, despite their ignorance of who he was.

Today in class one of the students was from Ghana and had never heard of Saint Patrick's day. It was interesting to hear all the Catholics and Protestants try to explain Saint Patrick and the snakes and Ireland and all that stuff.

Apparently some scholars now believe that he wasn't even a leprechaun at all.

Those pictures look familiar, Peter. Are those from a previous year,
or is it just the same people?

They are today's but the last photo has two girls that were in last year's (piper and concertinaplayer). Same sort of setting though (I was thinking myself 'I took this last year as well' in a few cases): Brid O Donohue's whistle classes. My son is on the float every year, not in these pics though.

Joseph E. Smith wrote: Ah, the Chicago River (I think). Funny, I do not know why they dye it every year, its normal color is green.
Of course, that's the (very) old joke in Chicago - "If they can dye it green one day of the year, why can't they dye it blue the other 364?"

And yeah, I was downtown in July and the river was looking pretty greenish.
