A Utah specialty: Fry sauce. It's the best and people pay extra to get it.

I've never heard anyone say "catsup", even though that is how I too spell it. I don't blame your kids. I mean, every time I think of it I start laughing. Oh boy, we're almost out of cat sup.emmline wrote:I use catsup, but I pronounce it ketchup. My spouse pronounces catsup as written and is roundly chastised by his children on a regular basis.

Salt on nearly all fries...
Vinegar when given the opportunity...
Curry sauce if offered....
Ketchup on rare occasions.
Unfortunately, fries are part of my diet past, not in my diet present and probably rarely in my diet future. I will only have them if I can be assured that they are really really good ones.
However I will not forego sweet potato fries. They are eaten just with salt. I had them yesterday at O'Rourkes (anyone visiting central CT needs to experience O'Rourkes...happy sigh).
Sincerely,
Tyg

I too love sweet potato fries. My mother puts cinnamon and sugar on them, sometimes.Tyghress wrote:However I will not forego sweet potato fries. They are eaten just with salt. I had them yesterday at O'Rourkes (anyone visiting central CT needs to experience O'Rourkes...happy sigh).

The chips need to be as thick as your forefinger if a man and your thumb if a woman. I don't know what those nasty little matchsticks are you get in McDonald's, but they ain't chips. Salt and vinegar. Put the vinegar on first - think. A very good thing to do is to get the chips home quickly, crush a clove of garlic into some mayo and dip. Another very good thing to do is to butter thickly some cheap, thin-sliced white bread and make chip butties with the hot, salty and vinegary chips. These things are best done after you've come home on a cold night with too much beer on board. I got these ideas from a cookery book by Nigel Slater and he is, I can attest, a man who knows exactly what he's talking about.

He jested, quaff'd and swore."

My something else goes well beyond just salt. I love vinegar on my "chips" . There is nothing like it. But, I also love gravy. We used to get fries with gravy from the french fry truck in Ottawa whenever we were up there (which was often since I grew up near there). Yum! And because I spent a great deal of time in the Philadelphia area too, cheese. And cheese fries are like Philly cheesesteak. You can't get good ones anywhere other than Philly
