Without looking at the article, it looks like a Flemish Giant to me.

I knew a guy who raised 'em. He used to say, loftily, "The Flemish Giant is the only true rabbit. All others are mere bunnies!"

And a bigger bunny --

Robert the Rabbit

They are both German Giants. Robert outweighs Herman by 1.5 kilograms, which is either 3.3 or 33 or 330 pounds.

At last, we know the breed of Bugs Bunny.

(Of course, Elmer Fudd is still a shorty. Must be related to jbarter. )

Robert weighs 20.3 lbs. and Herman weighs 17 lbs. Herman's ears are 8.3 inches long. I thought those bunnies would have weighed at least 40 pounds. I guess their fur makes them look bigger. Their faces look the same size as the owners' faces. I've never seen such huge rabbits! They must be very docile. If I were Robert, I'm afraid I'd be tempted to thump Karl a good one and make my getaway.

Lagomorphs are some of my favorite mammals, after rodents, marsupials, and primates. :)

I just saw that the one in the article eats around 2 kilos of food a day, and a bale of hay a week. Is that both, or the attrition rate of the bale? A lot of food, in any case. Good thing you can train rabbits to use litterboxes!

Nutritive requirements aside, a bunny the size of a small truck tooling around the apartment would be pretty cool.

They actually HAVE to chew - to keep their teeth worn down, and one thing they LOVE to chew is electric cords.
