CP: Something new...

For all of you looking for good ways to spend your tax refunds, check this out:

I had the machine shop that does my metal fittings make me 10 sets in black Acetal (generic for Delrin, which is a Dupont trademark), and I'm really excited about how they look. Check back to this posting-- as I install fittings on a couple of other woods in the next week or so I may add some more pics of the black Acetal on Bloodwood, Tiger Maple, etc. This particular whistle (unfinished) is spoken for already.

I'll be starting a new batch in a week or so, so if you've been thinking about ordering a whistle, now would be an excellent time. With nursing school, I have a LOT less time than I used to and won't be starting another batch for a couple of months. No payment or deposit required up front-- get that favorite wood in the works! Thanks.

Hey Paul,

That black gives a beautiful classic contrast for light timbers! How does it look on an all-blackwood number?
All the best!

Some people might like that look, but I think the effect would be sort of wasted. I may be able to post a pic of that later today.

Paul,
WhOA! That looks very nice. I suspect those black fittings would also look great on your yellow and green acetal whistles.

Cheers,

Paul,
I remember you made somthing like that on an all delrin whistle.

Astetics are cool but I think it would also help out with the warm up and any clogging problems....great idea!

If I didn't know pretty surely that I would eventually kill a wooden whistle, I'd sure order one like that! Ge-orgeous!

I'm not totally sure how the eyes develop, but as I understand it they are the tree's reaction to stress as the tree is growing. If the tree sits in a windy location, it constantly gets slightly bent in the direction of the prevailing wind. This causes compression on the leeward side and tension on the windward side, and the wood fibres grow in odd patterns due to this. I think some more googling is in order...

You are right Paul, there are a lot of interesting info in that link. There are also an article about birdseye wood, but I'm afraid that the english in that article is more advanced than I can fully understand. It will take futher study and a good dictionary to get through it. :sniffle: :D
