No sweeter than drinking a cup of molasses.Flyingcursor wrote:I've never had shoo-fly pie. Sounds very sweet.
SHOE FLY PIE
1 c. brown sugar
3 c. flour
Dash of salt
1 c. shortening
Mix until crumbly.
LIQUID:
1 1/2 c. molasses
1 1/2 c. hot water
1 1/2 tsp. soda
Mix and place in 2 unbaked pie shells. Place crumbs on top of liquid and bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Makes two 9 inch pies. Put hot water in a bowl first and add molasses. It dissolves easily this way.
(Recipe from cooks.com)
If you want a real charge, go on a low carb diet for about a month and then eat a piece of this stuff. It should have about the same effect as a half a lid of Kansas ditch weed.

LOL, it took me a minute to figure out ya'lls sorghum was molasses!
We don't call it that around here- it's either molasses or 'lasses.
I can remember going to a neighboring "stir off"when I was a kid. It was always exciting to here that someone was makin' molasses, because you got to play by running around on top of the piled, crushed stalks(slick and sticky), ride the horse round and round as it powered the crusher and eat the foamy molasses as they cooked up. Oh yeah, and music was definately made.
Nothing better on a hot buiscuit. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I also remember going with my Grandaddy to check the taps on his maple trees. That was fun too. He had so many sugar maples his farm was known locally as "The Sugar Camp".

Not really. Molasses is made from cane sugar, whereas sorghum is made from, well, sorghum.cowtime wrote:LOL, it took me a minute to figure out ya'lls sorghum was molasses!
