I don't even know this song. And, it's sandwiched in between two songs I barely missed: "Sixteen Tons" and "Heartbreak Hotel."

Feb 10, 1963: "Hey, Paula"

Wish I was born a year later; it would have been "I wanna hold your hand." I'm much more of a Beatles fan... Plus then I'd be a year younger.

Doesn't go back far enough but my mom used to tell me that "Ogg bangs two rocks together and smiles" was very popular when I was born.

Mine was "How Much is that Doggie in the Window"! Jeez. I wouldn't have minded "Wake Up Little Susie".

Try here, Dale -- Poor People of Paris played by Chet Atkins

Look for the Listen Now link in the middle of the page.

It's not the Les Baxter version, but you may recognize the tune.

The Les Baxter version was an instrumental. There are some seldom heard-lyrics, but they really suck.

"Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone. (November 29 1971). If I had been born on my due date (Nov. 18 ) it would have been the Theme from "Shaft". That'd been cool!

Weird. I just noticed that the #1 song on November 29, 2001 was "Family Affair" by Mary J. Blige. What are the odds?

That Lucky Old Sun (Just Rolls Around Heaven All Day)
Words: Haven Gillespie
Music: Beasley Smith
Performed By: Frankie Laine (1949) #1 on Nov. 1, 1949

Released as a single: 1949...MERCURY........That Lucky Old Sun /I Get Sentimental Over Nothing

Released as an album: Mercury Records MG25027 1949
"The 331/3 rpm Album records, along with the 45 rpm singles, came out in 1949. Before that what was called an album was just a set of several 78's sold together in a case. The first 331/3 albums were just a collection of songs that was recorded as singles. Then came albums containing both old and new material. It would take several years before an album stood on it's own with material recorded just for it."

Tracks:
............1. God Bless The Child
............2. Cry Of The Wild Goose
............3. Lucky Old Sun
............4. Wrap your troubles in dreams
............5. Don't Cry Little Children
............6. By The Light Of The Stars
............7. Mule Train
............8. West End Blues

Lyrics:
Up in the mornin'
Out on the job
Work like the devil for my pay
But that lucky old sun got nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day.

Fuss with my woman, toil for my kids
Sweat till I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun got nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day

Dear Lord above, can't you know I'm pining, tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to Paradise

Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothing to do
But roll around heaven all day

Send down that cloud with a silver lining, lift me to Paradise

Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothing to do
But roll around heaven all day
