moment of lightness and laughter
This site is funny (and sometimes just plain sad, which is another form of funny):

Here's one of my favorites:
edit: apparently, it won't let you link to the pictures. They're still hilarious though.

It's a tradition in many churches (at least here in the US) to have everyone bring a dish to pass then after the service the congregation gets together to eat. It's such a tradition that it's sort of a cliche.Martin Milner wrote:Corking, great site Cran! Some are inspired, some plain dumb.
What's an after church potluck, Flydood? Sounds like a game of Russian Roulette.
But my hilarious church sign went unnoticed. How sad.

In a more secular vein, try this.
"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."
They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

I seem to remember a Ridout Funeral Home in Birmingham that belongs on this site.SteveShaw wrote:In a more secular vein, try this.

Not to be confused with a "dead spread," which is the same food, but you take it to the dead person's family instead of to the church.Flyingcursor wrote:It's a tradition in many churches (at least here in the US) to have everyone bring a dish to pass then after the service the congregation gets together to eat. We love potlucks in the US because they are the only opportunity we have to eat that green bean/mushroon soup/fried onion crumbles casserole. Nobody ever makes that stuff at home.
Another favorite potluck item -- hot dish. You make hot dish by combining some kind of meat (browned hamburger, diced Spam, cut up hotdogs, left over roast) with a can of whatever Campbell's soup you have in the cabinet (but not chicken noodle -- too runny) and a large quantity of some cooked starch (noodles, rice, spaghetti, other pasta). Stir it all together, then slather it into a baking dish and top with either cheese, tater tots or those canned fried onion crunchies, and bake for about an hour or until the top catches fire.
Good eating -- I love a potluck.

My sister makes that greenbean stuff every time.
I love the inevitable meatballs. Usually two or three varieties. There's also the little hotdogs in a crockpot with barbeque sauce. Mmmmm.
That's probably why I usually bring one of those two items every time.

When I went to church, there would always be eight different kinds of homemade macaroni and cheese (mac + cheese = my favorite food). This was the only reason I went to church, truth be told.Flyingcursor wrote:My sister makes that greenbean stuff every time.
