Got the wood bug
Just got my first wood whistle (a Bleazey in G) - Okay, now I get it!
I can feel an expensive addiction comming on. Its not perfect, but theres something about the sound and feel of a wood whistle that cannot be found in metal or plastic.
If you dont yet have a wooden whistle, dont get one; once you've got one it will only lead to more - you've been warned!

Welcome to the Dark Side indeed..................
Of course, you could always develop an addiction to light maple as I have done.
It's an addiction I like.

Hmph! So weak. Wood whistles, wood flutes - I can resist anything! I am immovable!Unseen122 wrote:Don't take up Flute. That is a far worse addiction.
Wait, Hoho. Now WHERE did that come from? Pay no attention to the wood instruments behind the curtain.

Especially when you combine it with a penchant for light maple! I got my first Irish flute recently, and the days of only needing to pay a few bucks for a fine instrument are gone.Unseen122 wrote:Don't take up Flute. That is a far worse addiction.
I was originally worried that the relatively low price (about $275) might reflect mediocre quality, but I'm absolutely delighted with the instrument. Either I was a flute-playing prodigy in a previous life (very doubtful), or this is a quality instrument that even a rank beginner can use to good effect:
For anyone interested, I bought it from a seller called The Celt's Cauldron (up in Cape Breton). They have an eBay store at http://stores.ebay.com/The-Celts-Cauldron.
As for wooden whistles, just two days ago I was looking longingly at a Sweet wooden C (walnut) at a local music shop. Had I not just bought a copper whistle from David O'Brien, I think I would have grabbed it.
My only consolation is that this is a pretty benign addiction!
