It's not red but it acts just like a lath with a cross drill. :)

Tell us something.: Of course I'm not a bot; I've been here for years... Apparently that isn't enough to pass muster though!

Does it "do all the work, so I don't have to?"

It is very easy to turn on and off. One switch for the lath and one for the drill. Just don't try to use both at the same time. :)

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

I should have seen this before I shelled out $300 on a Rotary table! :D

That machine pictured above looks way too complex for my tastes. You might try my simplified version, pictured below. I think Home Depot, Sears or WallMart sells these.

I have a machine much like the one Casey pictured. I use it punch the little holes in the tops of the apple pies that I bake for state fairs. It was a messy affair learning to use it, let me tell you.

Its usually not the machine but the person who operates it that makes the difference, all architects dont work with the same brain.

Well Casey, I am glad you finely finished customizing that lathe you have in your shop! Where do the finished flutes pop out?

This device is only for end caps. The flutes are done the old way, between two trees with a spring pole lathe.

Personally, I’ve wanted to see what a CNC set up could do with some derlin (sp?) and the right dimensions. I have wondered if producing a playable instrument in mass would be possible.
