i believe my friend has.

these eBay scams are pretty incredible. I'm surprised this one moved so quickly. Typically they wait a month or two, when the original sale info/photos are removed from the eBay archive.

I have a Rudall/Carte Eb flute that a scammer tried 5 times over a year to try and "sell"

For those of you unfamiliar with the technique, they typically download the photos and the details of the flute (usually ones that sell high, such as this Pask did....although I thought the price a tad too much for it)....then repost it later as their own sale, usually under a new name......and stick withthe name until someone bites, sends lots of money for something they don't have and move on.

It's pretty sick, actually.

Thankfully I've not been clipped as yet, but have heard of some who have been.

anyway....
be careful out there!

Well, I'd just like to know what one is supposed to do!
I've not bought anything from ebay in quite some time now, (actually a few years), but I used to!

I'd like to think people are better than that!

My mistake, I guess.

Anyway, that's a lovely looking flute. Your friend must be very happy with it.

M

and by the way, it's still listed.....

I am friends with the owner of this flute....and it is NOT the eBay seller.
In fact, this flute sold on eBay about a month ago (when my friend bought it).
Check eBay # 7345340541 which was the original sale.

My friend called me this morning to warn me.

This is a FAKE sale.
If your friend is sure that's true, he needs to report it to eBay immediately... before someone gets taken. Glad you found that out!

It is a beauty... so... how *does* it play??

he's more a collector than a player.....
and I was supposed to give a blow when I visited earlier this month, but never did make it over to him.

He said it plays pretty well.

Remember.....beauty ain't everything in a flute!
I wouldn't doubt a few garbage flutes from way back were adorned more than most so that people were taken more by its beauty than its sound!

I had a Metzler once that looked like this flute (sort of.....but it was beautiful) and it played pretty well.

Inlaid tone holes are great.....but the TARNISH! You're constantly cleaning.

Going on what was said here, I did report the current listing as suspicious. I hope the illegal lister gets some serious consequences.

Good point! The feedback makes an excellent barometer. It appears like someone registered under a new seller ID and then made a purchase to quickly get a 100% positive feedback rating.

Before bidding, always read the negative feedbacks no matter how high the overall feedback rating is. Also, see if the rating earned is mostly due to selling or due to purchasing.

You could ask a question or two of the seller to get a feel for the situation. This may indicate whether or not the seller knows anything about the item. On occasion a seller will actually get incensed about being asked questions (so stay away).

It would appear that the flute in question was removed from eBay's listing.

Being in my backyard (so to speak), I've mentioned I'll be down that way in the next few days and asked for a phone number to talk about the flute. Should prove interesting....

Go Terry! Too bad you can't rig up a hidden camera so we can all enjoy your visit. If he really does have an exact duplicate Pask flute, feel free to nab it and send it my way and we'll all pretend nothing none of this ever happened...

It was still listed when I checked. You may have been checking the number in the quote... that's the original sale, and it is indeed no longer accessible. I have reported this latest one as possibly fraudulent.

Hmmm, still there.

I also wrote to Ebay but they responded:

Hello Terry,

Thank you for writing to eBay with your concerns.

I have reviewed the information that you provided regarding item #7395019638, but at this point find that I do not have enough evidence to show that the member has violated any eBay rules.

Unfortunately, we will only be able to take action if the owner of the image or text writes to us. In some instances, certain members will allow others to use their images. It is also possible that they acquired the image from a mutual source. Therefore, we often cannot remove listings based on the representations of third parties whose credentials we cannot verify.

We do understand the potential for further issues in this type of situation. That is why, if you feel strongly about this issue, we recommend you contact the seller(s) to advise them of the information and recommend they contact us directly. Once we hear from them, we will take appropriate action.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Regards,

Bit of a duck-shove, eh?

I wrote to the seller, who did not reply to my question about a phone number, but offered to sell the flute directly to me (although that is not offered on Ebay). So I've passed that info on to Ebay, requesting them to act on it.

Seems to me it's not enough to thwart these guys, they need to be caught and dealt with. Doesn't seem to me that Ebay has the corporate willpower to do it.

Be careful out there!

Terry
