What's ironic is that he will probably be remembered far longer for his music contributions than for his charitable works.
Let's throw some oil on the fire here: what's the use of throwing a lot of money into poor areas when it can never be enough to resolve the problems there? By helping keep more poor people alive aren't we just fostering an ongoing cycle of over-population, poverty, disease, crime, etc.?

What's the point of eating when you're just going to be hungry again later?djm wrote: Let's throw some oil on the fire here: what's the use of throwing a lot of money into poor areas when it can never be enough to resolve the problems there? And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Eating should be reserved for those who can feed themselves. Trouble begins when you start feeding those who can't. Then they just want more. And there's too many of them for you to ever feed them all, or well.s1m0n wrote:What's the point of eating when you're just going to be hungry again later?

Your stomach can't feed itself. Why should you feed it? It's only going to want to be fed again later.djm wrote: Eating should be reserved for those who can feed themselves.
