Joseph, isn't that the guy who opened the First Church of Satan in California all those years ago? His eyes sure look a tad possessed.

I move that we trash this here thread. It's served its purpose - seen one set...seen them all.

I'm never for trashing a thread, but it might be nice to have a streamlined photos only version of it. Which I believe has been sugested before, but its still a good idea. As for seen one seen them all...my regs (o'grady) are coming in any week now and I can't wait for the marshmallow jokes to come flying my way. Bring it on! :swear:

Pictures only may sound like a good idea, but moderating it would be a bear (not that it hasn't been already :D )... plus, along with the photos, a description of maker, materials, history, location etc... etc... are good things to have IMHO.

I am afraid that the thread will stay as it is, and hope that things do not continue as they have this past week, getting out of hand. It has been suggested before, and I have to say I agree, if this thread poses issues with folks, then said folks can always read something else... kinda like TV, if you don't like what's on, turn the channel or turn it off and have a few tunes and a nice cuppa.

Oh, and I'm tired of the marshmallow jokes. NO'G's pipes have a very nice tone to my ear, and that is what ultimately is most important to me. :D

I say we clip and discard (or move) pages 82 through 84 of this topic (except irishpiper's pic on page 82) and start from there. Too much work, JES?

Nope, I'll run that suggestion by Dale and see what he thinks. Deleting posts isn't something I take lightly, and I have already deleted much (if not all) of the flame war from this past weekend.

I might go back in and prune a little more, but, we'll see....

Why not post a thread called something like...
  • Public Notice re edit of (named) thread
It has been suggested that non-essential posts, as determined by you the participants, and carried out by the moderator, be removed or relocated from the (named) thread. If there are any disagreements with this proposed action, please state your objection here along with any alternate solution you may have.
That way you are covered and supported by the community for the necessary pruning that is so badly needed. The intent of the thread was to post pictures of your pipes, without repeated intention or hint of any commercial aspects, and to include related comments. I've been as guilty as anyone for getting off-topic, but it sounds like we have overwhelming support to create a photo album only out of this thread.

This seems like a good idea, and I (or somebody else maybe...[hint]) could run a poll to gauge the support this idea would have.

However, it would still be a royal pain to moderate. I can see tons of unaswered PMs in my box, all taking issue with my deletion of their posts, and the huffing and puffing and threats of leaving the UP forum... and then Rich, Alan and Dale will begin to see a rise in their PM volume, containing the above messages of dissatisfaction that I'd ignored... and before you know, it's total anarchy with people rioting across the internet leading to a sad, violent and tragic spiral toward an inevitable and inescapable Armegeddon.............. yup, I can just see it... and at X-mas time to boot.

Suggestion: Lock this topic.

I don't know about you guys... but Im tired of it all. All of it.

Lorenzo started something that was genuine and good and now it's become something... something else and it's totally out-of-control.

Joseph, I could suggest hours of editing out the non-picture comments that would reduce it's 80 something pages down to about 40... but why bother?

Lock da bitch... If you want to show off your pipes, start another topic... then in no-time we can pervert that one just like this one.

PHPBB Photo album

Post by MarcusR »

Hi!
I just kind of speed read these last pages but I don't think anyone mentioned this.

There are some PHPBB hacks that can be used to create photo album threads
with thumbnail images and slide shows. You can still provide enough text to label the image, name for set and maker etc.

So why not start a new "picture of your pipes thread" in an album format including just pictures and short comments by the poster. Any discussion regarding the content has to be made in a separate thread (as long as people stay away from posting their views as images, that is).

Here is a demo site so you can see what it could look like:
http://www.mightygorgon.com/album.php

Here is the Album hack for PHPBB:
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/5028

I'm sure there are other photo album hacks for PHPBB out there as well.
