Pictures of the Universe are spectacular, to say the least. But what does it all mean to us humans here on this tiny planet in the Milky Way, that it what I want to know? This may not be the right forum for this discussion, but, Denny, what are your thoughts on this?

More importantly, if humans had not invented the Hubble Space Telescope and put into space, would this stellar event have occurred at all?

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

A much more interesting question than that stupid tree falling in the forest bit.

Exactly! It is just a question of priorities.

If God talked to you, how concerned with pictures of some of his lesser work would you be?

Every picture and every bit of stellar info astrophysicists gets us closer
to a full understanding of the origins of the universe, and the laws that
govern it. Perhaps this will help find out new, faster, cheaper ways to
travel, which would definately change the class struggle on this planet.
Chaos theory suggests that every increase in human knowledge has
waves of influence throughout society.

For a deeper discussion, see almost any James Burke book, but
especially relevant here is this one.

I really enjoy the posted pictures. They affirm the wonder and the multiplicity of the artistic hand of God, among other things. Just a personal response...
How do you prepare for the end of the world?
