1. "Young Frankenstein"
2. "The Producers"
3. "History of the World -- Part 1"

(I've just realized that I've never seen "Blazing Saddles" all the way through. :o )

For me, "The Producers" wins hands down. As the only Mel Brooks movie without a f*rt joke, I think it has a sophistication the others lack.

And "Springtime for Hitler" is nothing short of brilliant.

Is this like, a guy thing?

I've never been able to sit through the first 15 minutes of any of them.

And is Mel Brooks the guy who did the kilt movie with the blue-painted faces?

The only thing that makes people in a Mel Brooks film turn blue is when there isn't a f*rt joke. :D

Yay! I agree entirely.

As well, I'd say the Producers is better from a character development standpoint, and has more of a solidarity to the narrative. Also, because it lacks the outrageous scope of his later movies (not that the scope's a bad thing), I think the humor is more intimate--though it surely loses a bit of the surreal quality of his later stuff.

Should be a fun paper!

I'd have to say Blazin' Saddles (so it's not a guy thing)

Close, but in second place- The Producers

And eyes as gray as icicle fangs measure stranger
For size, honesty, and intent."

i think you're confusing mel brooks and mel gibson.
personally, i prefer mel gibson, but blazing saddles was pretty funny.

Oh, you know, I think you might be right. That would explain it.

I used to confuse John Denver and Gilligan . . . would go on and on about how wonderful I thought it was that he had made such a successful change in careers . . . <rolls eyes>
