I'm going to skip the obvious joke here (
![lol ](./images/smilies/icon_lol_144.gif)
) and ask, "How is the Whitney, anyway?" I've often wondered about them, but I've not heard much.
Okay, I've corrected it.
Actually, it's a very decent whistle:
Nicely made and attractive, tuneable, and well in tune with itself, with OXXOOO for C-nat.
Fairly pure sound--a bit more of a non-raspy reediness than the Syn aluminum, but maybe slightly "muffled", too.
Quiet up through second octave G from which point it gets progressively louder, but even second octave C# isn't too bad.
No problem moving--or not moving--between octaves.
Doesn't use much air--I can get through a fairly slow version of "Sally Gardens" on four big breaths (though I normally wouldn't).
What little I know of ornamentation seems crisp enough on it.
It's not my favorite high D, but it's not my least favorite, either. For one thing, I don't really need a quiet whistle now.
