Leave Indiana out of this, the discussion was about squid :P

Anyhoo, yeah, bummer about that urea-impregnated flesh deal. A very impressive creature, though.

On the upside, their smaller cousins are delicious when battered and deep-fried or grilled and served up with a soy and ginger based dipping sauce...don't forge the lemon wedges either. It's only rubbery when it's overcooked.

Man, post a topic about some rare, beautiful, or majestic animal, and it always comes down to whether or not it makes for good eatin'. You people . . .

I'd definitely sit very, very still in a dark hole, or swim very, very deep and impregnate my flesh with urea compounds, if I were potentially tasty and you folks were around. I'm pretty sure, though, that my innate bitterness and startling outward appearance is enough to keep me off the CITES list.

I knew it wouldn't take long for sex to creep into this thread. Food and sex, over and over again, in every thread. Talk about fixated.

Well, I'd adopt you, but I can hardly take care of myself. Hey, uilleann pipes sorta look like a squid, don't they.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm - haggis & jagermeisterrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(Not being ironic here. I really do like 'em both, although I've never tried them at the same time.)

Thats pretty neat, now if only they could get a colassal squid on video.
Larger than the giant squid, and equipped with razor sharp hooks on
its tentacles. makes the giant squid appear almost tame in comparison.

I'm sending that link to my mom. She's going to love it. She is the self-proclaimed "Squid Monger" of her workplace. She makes up contests about squid and gives prizes.

Here's a comparison chart of a London bus, a sperm whale, and the two gigantic squid species:

And a scary quote about the colossal squid from Dr. Steve O'Shea, a leading expert on squid species:

"Now we can say that it attains a size larger than the giant squid. Giant squid is no longer the largest squid that's out there. We've got something that's even larger, and not just larger but an order of magnitude meaner."

This squid has one of the largest beaks known of any squid and also has unique swivelling hooks on the clubs at the ends of its tentacles.
