Solar Death Ray
Some guy used mirrors to create a Solar Death Ray.

So, if he gets within 2 feet of you, you're a gonner. Imagine if the Romans had put those on their shields. I think the Atlanteans did.

Oh, that thing is for wimps.
Wimpy, wussy, wuss wimps.
What you really want is a giant fresnel lens.
Seriously, if you can't reduce a pile of coins to slag, you're just not trying hard enough.

You had a potato gun too? Ours is still lurking somewhere around here!Denny wrote:Well, I do hope that my son doesn't hear of this...

My kid would really dig the solar death ray concept as well.
He also poses this question, and I'd love to know if any chiffgeeks can answer satisfactorily:
Why, in a world of Jedi who battle with light sabers, could you not deflect all blows by wearing mirror armor?

Depends on if you are talking about light-sabers or blasters. Light-sabers wouldn't really be light. They'd be a controlled plasma discharge (and would cut throught the mirrored armour like butter). The blaster might reflect initially, but would cause the armour to superheat so quickly that it would melt, then evaporate, and then you'd start to melt/evaporate soon after.

I always wondered why the sabers didn't just pass through each other or flare up and destroy both combatants. Oh yeah, The Force. I forgot.Depends on if you are talking about light-sabers or blasters. Light-sabers wouldn't really be light. Since its all fiction, one must consider the effects of the words themselves as far as story-telling goes. "Light sabre" evokes a feeling of brightness, goodness, the correct side in a moral dilemma. "Plasma sabre" sounds technically cool for tech geeks, but carries no subtext, and does not evoke any emotional response. Delivery is 80% of good story-telling, and sci-fi is all about telling tall stories.emmline wrote:They should be called Plasma-sabers.
