One more vote for CDs. Like most, I convert some to MP3s, then save the CD for use after the computer crash that is just lurking in the shadows .... waiting ....

CDs, for all the reasons mentioned above.
For me, it's not just hearing the music, but learning about it, so I like liner notes, too.
I'd probably pay extra for sheet music that actually matched the CD, because CDs are the only way I have of hearing tunes to learn them and I can never seem to find accurate transcripts.

CDs
Wouldn't it be best to offer your customers a choice of whichever format they prefer? I realise this may well be impractical because of costs, but if it has to be one or t'other, I'd go for CDs.

Well, let me put it this way, I want the original audio. That doesn't necessarily mean a CD, or even uncompressed, so long as the compression is of the lossless variety.
I won't buy an mp3. I'll listen to it, and even download it if you offer it for free, but I'm going to buy the original recording and put it into whatever format is convenient for me at the time and archive the original.
KFG
P.S., when I say "buy" I mean "buy," not "license." If you aren't willing to sell me a file you'll have to sell me a CD.

I like to get the CD as well, and rip and encode it for listening.
I prefer the ogg vorbis format over the mp3 format as I am a piping fan/wannabe.
I can hear some "fuzz" in the mp3 format and I can't hear the difference between the CD and the ogg.
I can hear the "fuzz" on any reed instrument with the mp3 format.
I have over 17 GB of Irish music ripped from my CD collection and encoded to ogg. I have my sound card fed into my stereo, so I have a great jukebox! I never have to change out the CDs either.

Hi Phil - Maybe we are not your bog average
user/buyer, and therefore not the best to
market research with? - but I am happy to
give you my preferences for what they are worth.
I almost exclusively use MP3 now for four main reasons;
1. I can buy just the tracks I want.
2. MP3s are easy to store or convert+burn to a CD if needed.
3. I can shop on the net and get the music down straight away.
4. I have access to a vast store of MP3s on the net.
Good luck.
