Real Player alternatives

Post by dubhlinn »

I had my PC reformated - I think that's what it's called - and I need an alternative to Real Player.
There has been mention of such alternatives here in the past but I don't get on so well with the search function so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hm. I use WINAMP for most media files. But, I can't recall if it reads .ra files. You might want to check the winamp.com site.

I'll check them out.

I was trying to play something from the RTE archives and got a prompt to tell me that I needed Real Player to play the program. It was then that I remembered someone posting a link to a system that allows the files to be played on Windows Media Player...I think.

My copy of Winamp (v 2.81) does not list .ra as a supported format.

I'm fairly certain the realplayer format is proprietary.

But I guess you gotta filter out the spambots.

I use "Real Alternative"

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Rea ... native.htm

I get the impression it uses Real's codecs for video coding/deocding, but without their spyware or buggy player. It works really well for me

I'm pretty sure that's what I was thinking about.
I'll give it a try, Thanks.
