Two of our cats are 13, one of them had sudden changes in behaviour and it was because he had a toothache. The toothache finally cleared up, we got kitty toothpaste for him and he's back to his normal self.
In regards to cats sitting on monitors, this is a normal harmless yet annoying activity. It becomes harmfull for the monitor if the cat decides to gack-up a hairball and it seeps into the chassis of electronics. The picture suddenly started to shrink. After drying out, it lasted another couple of month before giving up the ghost.

The secret (to getting all one's homework done) is not to go out and get drunk every weekend and act like a hoochie. But apparently I'm the only person in my entire building who knows that secret. They're all doing last minute homework and I'm sitting here goofing off. Because I can! Woo!Lambchop wrote:Wonderful! You're getting off to a good start, I can see!Cranberry wrote:Would you believe that I got it ALL done for the weekend?Lambchop wrote: Thank you, Cran, dear.
Aren't you supposed to be studying?
I probably wouldn't even believe it myself, but it's true...
Uh oh! I think we've hijacked the Undisputed Thread . . .

Dale, I hate to bring this up, but is it possible there is some critter living in your house you don't know about, that the cat has encountered on the floor and is simply very fearful of encountering again?
I'm no expert, but it sounds like your cat had some kind of Bad Experience and was on the floor when it happened.
Stinging centipedes come to mind, but could be any number of things.

Nah, the occasional sheep or game keeper is her limit. I just wish she wouldn't bring them into the house when she's bagged 'em...Cranberry wrote:Surely mice are too small for her. Does she catch elephants instead?buddhu wrote:Yep, I'd go with that. Cats are crazy, but they are so totally brilliant that they have earned the right to be as crazy as they like...Cranberry wrote:Sometimes cats are just crazy, sometimes they are sick, and sometimes they are both at the same time. It's the same situation with people.
I'd take her to a vet, and, if nothing is physically wrong, just let her be.
Our cat is not only crazy, but she is also legendary. Behold Morwenna, the legendary, mighty, giant tabby of Kings Walden...

Does Dale's neighbourhood get many earthquakes? Ours didn't until we got that cat...
And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

With my cats, sudden jumping about on the floors (all carpeted) is a clear sign of something biting them (fleas, usually). Thorough vacuuming usually resolves the problem. For the biting/self-defrocking, my vet said it was an allergic reaction. He pointed out that the cats literally wrapped themselves around the heat vents, and that they were probably allergic to the dust. He gave me some pills and the behaviour stopped within a week (giving pills to a reluctant cat is NOT fun).

Dale, has your cat been exposed to catnip? I found out after an episode with our cat that some felines suffer an adverse reaction to the stuff rather like having a bad trip. Montague Montmorency Montgomery (Monty to his friends) recovered but we've always checked cat treats since then.
May the joy of music be ever thine.

One of my old friends (i.e. she used to be my friend, but now I have no idea where she is, not that she is old in years) had a cat once. I forgot its name, but it was NASTY in temperment. It scratched me and bit me and gave me catscratch fever, but because this person was my friend and the cat had infected a couple other people, I didn't report it because the cat would have been taken away.Joseph E. It made my glands in my neck swell up, and I eventually had to go to the doctor, but I never told them which cat it was that scratched me.
