I love Wichita Lineman. Especially the Bass. He's got that in Galveston too.
Ok, and I also like Johnny Cash.
I always thought Wichita Lineman was a brilliant song. Great melody and really inventive lyrics.
I am a lineman for the county.
And I drive the main road.
Searching in the sun for another overload.

I hear you singing in the wire.
I can hear you through the whine.
And the Wichita Lineman,
is still on the line.

I know, I know, but it's cute, and fun to sing to.
It's by Shel Silverstein, actually. The Irish Rovers just recorded it.

Wichita Lineman... time for a remake?
I can see it now, someone doing a 'metal' or hip-version.

Songfacts:
This was written by Jimmy Webb, who also wrote Campbell's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Galveston." He was driving along the Kansas-Oklahoma border when he saw a lonesome telephone lineman working atop a telephone pole. This gave him the idea for the song.

While recording the song in the studio, Campbell felt something was out of place. He couldn't capture the same feel of the song he'd felt when Webb sang the demo as he accompanied himself on his Hammond organ. Campbell decided that the only way to get the right vibe was to add Webb's Hammond organ to the song's instrumentation.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I like Barry Manilow. Most of the first four or five albums.

Well, ya should have been in Cincinnati, then, the HOME of the Heywoods - talk about saturation play on the radio!!!! :o

And yes, I know that the Irish Rovers didn't write the song, but I was saying I like their version of it.

Completely void of any redeeming musical qualities, absolutely silly lyrics, and utterly irresistable.
I didn't know that people were supposed to be ashamed for liking that song. :-?

I probably listen to a lot of stuff that's shameful and don't even know it...

I reluctantly confess the following-

McArthur Park- heck, I've got the music and can play the thing on piano
How sad is that?

Time Passages. I think I must be one of only a handful of pitiful souls who really and truly love this tune.

Allright, you folks out there......time to 'fess up!
I like McArthur Park and a few Al Stewart tunes myself. There is no shame in this.

Speaking of tunes recorded by Glen Campbell I like "Gentle on My Mind" and "By the Time I Get To Phoenix".

In fact the truth is.....I am a big Glen Campbell fan. SOB!!!1

There is no shame in this.

Songs I like but shouldn't?

Probably lots actually. The reasons I shouldn't like them are many and varied.

I love George Jones but boy are most of his songs lame.

Here's a few:

Iggy and the Stooges, I Wanna Be Your Dog
The Chips, Rubber Biscuit
Charley and Inez Foxx, Mockingbird
Lillian Leach and the Mellows, I'm Gonna Pick Your Teeth With an Ice Pick
The Rivingtons, Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow and The Bird is the Word
Clarence Carter, Patches
Hollywood Argyles, Alley Oop
The Who, Anyway, Anywhere, Anyhow.
Joe Perkins, Little Eefin Annie
Rolf Harris, Stairway To Heaven
The Newbeats, Bread and Butter

Hanson: 'Mm Bop'
And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.
