2. Depends. For practice, I like a quieter whistle, because I live very close to my neighbors

4. Plastic currently (the only one I've played so far that is "like" the Clarke is the Clarke, and I don't like the contrasting feel of metal on my upper lip and unfinished wood on my lower lip). I've never tried all-wood (at least not in a whistle, though I like my wooden recorder) or all-metal.
5. I'm flexible. So far my favorite whistles have metal bodies, so I guess that's my preference, but I also have a plastic Susato I'm fond of, and I've always wanted to try a wooden whistle.

9. Kinda depends on what you mean by "cheap." My current favorite (a Cillian O Briain "improved") cost me around $30 (give or take, depending on exchange rates), so it's not as cheap as, say, a Meg, but definitely cheaper than a fine handmade whistle.
10. I don't think there is any "one" perfect whistle for me. So much depends on what I'm playing and the circumstances under which I'm playing it. I definitely have my favorites, and I suspect I will meet more favorites as I acquire more whistles.

4) Wooden - very much so. Plastic is good because it's hearty--you can keep on in a purse or pocket and simply wipe it off before you play, or you can be drinking a Coke and play, but overall, wooden is preferable and has a MUCH nicer sound, I think.

7) I suffer horribly from WHOA. I was relieved to find out it's an affliction.

9) Favorite low-end: my Original Clarke in C. Favorite high-end: my Shaw Low A (which is essentially just a bigger verison of the Clarke in many ways).
10) Well, I guess I am still looking for the pefect whistle. I'll probably know it when I find it. My Clarke comes close--I've played other C-Clarkes and they don't sound like mine, I think it may have a defect or something that makes it wonderful for me. I just wish it were a tad lower instead...maybe in Bb. Oh well.
