I'll use them on occasion, but try not to overdo it......

If a poster is given to using many emoticons, then it becomes a part of that person's style, I guess. Whether or not it's a style you like.

I would tend to agree with you there; i also think, though, that they help people who either dont have the ability to convey their thoughts or read others' thoughts clearly...

I have seen posts so ridiculously misinterpreted (and always in the worst light) that it seems almost mandatory to use smilies, if for nothing more than to say, "I'm kidding". Then again, there are some really funny smilies/emoticons out there, and people are able to make some very clever use of them to make a humourous post even funnier. Good stuff!

I use them mainly because I've seen too many people here take offense at the written word where an emoticon might have avoided the misunderstanding.

I am one of those who tends to use way too many emoticons. Honestly, it's not to be annoying, though. I just have had people misunderstand me too many times in the past when I have not used some sort of a smiley. Now it just seems to be habit.

My only regret is that, while here at work, I'm restricted to the emoticons that come with C&F itself.
