I'm still not sure I'd call it "humility". The primary definition of "humble" is "not proud", and I believe that Galadriel (in the book) was still quite proud, even after refusing to take the Ring. I prefer to think of it this way: Galadriel had, over the millenia, acquired a self-awareness which enabled her to resist the lure of the Ring and finally return to Valinor. As you said, she had taken her own measure, and she knew where she fit in the world. (Just my opinion, of course.)
Cheers,

I like the part about humility...I pride myself on my humility

Dark and terrible deeds were done in the desire of both...even though the Silmarills were by no means evil, the things done in the madness of the Noldor's desire to reclaim them were very evil.

Nice, James (and Slude-dude)! Good to know there are still some readers out there (as opposed to the movie fans)!
interesting how the Silmarils and the ring are so alike, yet so diametrically opposed in purpose...
I had been wondering about that very comparison... we are about 2/3 through the Silmarillion. Hard going, but fascinating, and definitely explains things even the quadrillogy couldn't go that deeply into.

Tell us something.: I've picked up the tinwhistle again after several years, and have recently purchased a Chieftain v5 from Kerry Whistles that I cannot wait to get (why can't we beam stuff yet, come on Captain Kirk, get me my Low D!)

Tell us something.: I used to play pipes about 20 years ago and suddenly abducted by aliens. Not sure why... but it's 2022 and I'm mysteriously baack...
I just took the test again, but this time I selected the responses that were as close as possible to the opposite of what I selected the first time (when I got Yoda). So, here's the anti-Yoda...

Great, I still got a big-eared lump...

Absurd, I have more hair and am much better looking!
You ought to let Slude have yours then!

Hey, I already got Yoda and Quark, two bald lumps! I don't need a third! (Although having the authority to send Will Riker and Wesley Crusher on a suicide mission is very appealing...)
