Excellent episode! One of my favorites.Paul wrote: Sad news. Doohan's last performance of Scotty, I believe, was in STNG or Voyager. He had stored himself in a transporter array for about a hundred years and the new crew brought him out of it. It was pretty cool. Does anyone else remember that one?
He'll be missed.

Fan though I was, from the airing of the first episode, I never suspected he was a veteran of the D-day landing.
He and DeForrest Kelly can hoist one or two together now.
Gosh, I loved that show!
And, while we're waxing nostalgic about '60s TV, today (July 20) is Diana Rigg's birthday.

Ah, Dame Diana. What a great character she had in Emma Peel; the epitome of cool. I wanted to be her for the longest time...well, I still do. (Of course, *cough* I watched The Avengers much later, in syndication).mvhplank wrote: ... while we're waxing nostalgic about '60s TV, today (July 20) is Diana Rigg's birthday.

Hopefully, his Haggis is not in the fire, and he's been beamed to a new frontier.
I always enjoyed his character.

Wouldn't surprise me... never really knew, nor actually cared... I just enjoyed the way he did his job. Like the "I know this ship like the back of my hand..." stunt...jGilder wrote:It's my birthday too.mvhplank wrote: ... while we're waxing nostalgic about '60s TV, today (July 20) is Diana Rigg's birthday.
Speaking of James Doohan, did you know he was a Canadian who was talented at doing accents?

Scottie's awful gag in the Tribble episode, when he beamed a bunch of Klingon hating alien fuzz-balls called Tribbles aboard a Klingon ship:
"They'll be no tribble at all..."
Ah, they don't write 'em like that anymore.
Cheers, Mr Doohan. Bon voyage.

"I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer, mechanic, engineer, _______." But he always rose to the occasion.
Well, unless "He's dead, Jim!"
Lots of good life lessons in Star Trek.
My college days would not have been the same had it not been for the nightly 11 p.m. reruns of Star Trek. Never missed a night. They are still one of the only reasons I own a television.

James Doohan was respnmsible for me wanting to drink whiskey... From 1968 on, I have watched the old show religeously. It opened my eyes and my mind and provided me with plenty of inspiration and humor. I will raise a glass to Jimmie Boy today, and I will pipe Amazing Grace in his honor.
By the way, it would seem that his will requests that he be cremated and shot into space... like Mr. Roddenberry (sp?). Very cool. Hailing frequencies closed.
