Does your whistle have.........

Post by Micheal »

.........a name?

Guitar players have a tendency to name their guitars, Billy Gibbons has "Pearly Gates", Stevie Ray Vaughn had "Number 1", and "Lenny", Eric Clapton and "Blackie" or the one almost everyone knows, B.B. King and "Lucille".........

So how many people out there named their whistles? I finally did......
1) Clarke Original named "Grace" because it was my first whistle and the first song I learned was Amazing Grace.
2) Clare Eagle named Faith....Gift that reminds me to have faith in others.
3) Clarke WoodStock in C named Connie because of a simular post on another board....long story.

So lets here what you named your whistle(s) and why....

So far I have only named my whistles by the maker and the key they are in. However, I am still thinking of names for the whistles I make.
I did want to offer them sooner but I am still working on making them consistent, and deserving of a unique name.

I don't name my instruments.

However, each does have its unique personality, and each is certainly an individual.

Same goes for me. Also I have a unique relationship with each whistle. Some of these relationships are more complex than those with some people I know.

Same as that.

Except when one of my instruments inexplicably plays a wrong note during a tune (something I never do - it's always the instrument). When that happens they all assume the same name... which I won't specify here.

I tend to name them after their maker and add a 'My' before it, so I have myBurke and myAbell, etc. If I'm in a formal mood, 'The Low D,' etc.

I have nice Book of Kells stickers I got at a fair for a dollar and I put a sticker on the low d's just below the windway. I have an angel one from the booklet on the handle bars of my mountain bike. I caught a glance of it as I was going head over heals and thought it was the end of me on this world.

Actually I usually refer to a whistle by the maker and the key if I have multiple by the maker. Such as the Burke or the Syn D.

So does my brother.

Come to think of it I refer to a whistle in different ways not always by makeryes I will refer to my Syns that way but say my Low D I just call it the Low Whistle not the Merlin (little know brand of low whistles) and my Low F Cheiftan I call the F whistle and my Tipple Flute in D I call the Tippl but the one in Low C I call the Low C Flute.
